Oversby (back of the head)
Time of healing: 8 - 12 weeks.
This
piercing is called after Allan Oversby or Mr. Sebastian, the latter being his
professional name. He is one of the pioneers of early modern piercing.
This piercing should comprise the skin only, and avoiding any involvement of deeper structures, such as vessels or superficial nerves. The safest place is right in the midline. A professional piercer should perform it.
Cleanliness is a must, including clean clothes (collars). A jewel at this location may be negatively impacted by your clothes, e.g., a roll collar, a shirt, resulting in dislocation, scarring etc.
The most proper choice of a jewel is a slightly curved rod of Titan, or a straight rod of PFTE. In any case, the rod should be somewhat longer than the size of the channel to secure free drainage of any fluid during the period of healing, and avoiding the balls to cause friction upon the openings of the channel.
In consideration of all the risks and inconvenience, we have chosen not to perform this piercing at our studio.
