It’s of outmost importance to avoid any injury of the hindmost two thirds of the urethra, since this part must be kept sterile in order to avoid repetitive urinary infections, including infection down into the scrotum and potentially sterility due to later occlusion of the sperm ducts. So be sure to be in the hands of a knowledgeable and skilful piercer.
Piercings of other parts of the penis shaft are possible, as long as they comprise only the skin. A jewel must be located at a safe distance from the central vein, as well as the two main arteries and nerves, located at the frontal side to the left and right of this vein.
On the other hand, piercings across the shaft, right through the blood filled cavernous bodies - bringing about the erection - may result in defective erection and serious infections. Therefore, we do not insert any rods across the penis shaft.
Just to provide some more information: There are three more extreme piercings of the shaft. One is called Anailing, i.e., a long rod (nail) is inserted from a point in the middle of the hindmost portion of the frontal aspect of the penis, and longitudinally right through the space in between the cavernous bodies and out through the penis head. The other one is done by inserting the sharp end of a big hatpin into the upper part of the scrotum, longitudinally further up right through the middle portion of the shaft and out through the penis head, ending by closing the pin. The third one is done by inserting a giant ring into the urethra from a location in the upper part of the scrotum, all the way out through the urethra and the urinary split, and closing the ring with a ball; the purpose being to prevent erection, since it will become extremely painful. All such piercings belong to sadomasochistic practises and certainly not to the programme of a serious piercing studio. Furthermore, these extreme piercings are having all the risks of the piercings across the shaft mentioned above, although to an even greater extent.
