Septum
Time of healing: 4 - 5 weeks.
This
piercing is performed though the central parts of the nose, not the cartilage
but through the thin tissue between the nostrils. It’s quite common to see such
a piercing in Natives from New Guinea, Australia, and South America, often
having an important symbolic role. It’s more frequently encountered in the
males, although also the female Aborigines of Australia are known to have such a
jewel.
Some Piercers do advise against this type of piercing, since it may be somewhat difficult to make it sufficiently straight. On the other hand, the healing is likely to be quite uncomplicated, provided that you follow all the instructions. Subsequent to complete healing, such a piercing may easily be enlarged to allow for a larger jewel.
There is a relatively broad choice of jewels, e.g., nose bones of various designs (rings, horse shoes, rods, etc.), and also made of all sorts of materials (bone, steel, plastic, and much more). In principle, all types of jewels may be inserted here.
Should you wish to conceal the jewel, being in a working or family situation, a ASeptum keeper may be the solution, ensuring that the hole remains open in an invisible way.
