Tongue

Time of healing: 4 - 6 weeks.

This Piercing is highly on demand, even though it is of a relatively new date. The proper location is within the natural fold, which is clearly visible upon bending the tongue upwards. Furthermore, the insertion of the jewel must be centred to avoid lesions of the superficial and greater blood vessels at the underside.

Dependant upon the length and width of the tongue, it is possible to insert more than one jewel. To start with, a bar is inserted, being approximately 5 mm longer than the thickness of the tongue at that particular location. This is to allow extra space for the possible swelling often-occurring right after such a piercing. Later on, this rod can be changed into another one, having a more suitable length.

The risks of resulting teeth injuries and damages are relatively high, please see the section “Complications” (click the menu to the left).

Immediately after such a piercing, it is advisable to keep some ice cooled water in your mouth to the effect of reducing the swelling. Please also note that warm or hot beverages, spicy food, tobacco, alcohol, and much more may cause quite unpleasant experiences, in particular during the first week after the piercing. Hereafter, consider rinsing your mouth with water during 30 - 60 seconds, right after smoking, drinking alcohol, eaten food, etc.
