Bellybutton (navel)

 Time of healing: 4 - 6 weeks.

According to an old myth, a navel jewel signified royalty in the Ancient Egypt, and ordinary people were not allowed to wear such a jewel.

It is a quite common and popular piercing in both genders, and particularly in females. A  natural location is through the skin of the upper middle part of the bellybutton. In some individuals, the hole may be more or less flattened, rendering the navel more difficult to pierce in a successful way, although it may be possible to insert a so called Anavel banana. A professional piercer may be quite helpful, providing you with all the useful info including the proper choices of a jewel.

Right at the beginning, we recommend you to start with a ring, since a Abanana@ is much more difficult to keep sufficiently clean.

Occasionally, such a piercing may result in some healing difficulties. The most common cause is mechanical pressure from belts, waistbands, buttons, and alike provoking airritation and delayed healing. In cases of a more pronounced pressure, the jewel may gradually become displaced, even to the extent of growing out of the navel. Accordingly, do not wear too tight-fitting clothes during the first period of time after such a piercing. Another piece of advice: are you unable to follow this instruction, then do carefully consider if this piercing is anything for you at all.

The belly bottom is often a spot of an abundance of different microorganism, not really causing any harm before a jewel has been placed here. Proper cleaning procedures therefore are of outmost importance to an uncomplicated healing. We do recommend a quite careful cleaning of the bellybutton at least twice a day, using a cotton bud and a solution of mild soap.
