S. R. Body Art was founded January 1999. Already at that point in time, I had a one-year intensive training into piercing and anatomic knowledge. Right from the start, a medical doctor was engaged a neurologist, teaching me the location and function of all the relevant peripheral nerves, vessels and other structures, so that all piercings could be performed both with the outmost technical skill and a minimum of risk. This procedure was ongoing for more than six months. Since then, the neurologist has been employed as a medical consultant, securing access to all the latest medical knowledge, which continuously is integrated into the functions of my piercing studio. On demand, all clients may ask for a medical examination or choose to have their piecing done painlessly in full local anaesthesia, which of course comes with an extra fee to our medical consultant.
After this basic training, for more than six months I did a lot of practising under the supervision of a professional piercer, learning the different aspects of all the various piercings - and not least, that customers do differ from each other and are in demand of services tailored specially to their needs. Furthermore, piercing at some locations may be hazardous resulting in numbness, paresis, or other disorder of bodily function. Such piercings are either not performed or are advised against in my piercing study.
Currently, I'm president of the Danish Piercing Society. Here all the important public activities are concentrated, such as securing a high standard of piercing including future authorization of piercers, lobbying for adequate legislation etc.
Prior to my occupation as a professional piercer, I was a skilled dental technician. Accordingly, I'm perfectly able to provide you with quite useful advise concerning piercing of the lips and tongue, including risks of dental fractures, paradontosis, etc. - and how to minimize such risks.
